Kalitragus

Kalitragus (Giovanni Barbieri) is an innovative and experimental musician who loves the use of modular and analog synthesis. Like the plant Kalitragus, which detaches itself from its roots and spreads its seeds, Kalitragus seeks to emulate this process through his music, spreading original and experimental sounds across various genres.
With a self-taught approach, Kalitragus has released two albums: Neuro and Mist Diggers, the latter in collaboration with Sara Siami. Always in search of new challenges, he actively collaborates with collectives such as Conserere, Sound Benessere, and Milano Modulare, contributing to a vibrant and dynamic music scene.
In the Conserere collective, Kalitragus participates in workshops, concerts, and events in various cultural spaces around Milan, experimenting with new sounds. He has taken part in several artist residencies, including one coordinated by Killick Hinds (USA) and Hanne De Backer (Belgium), as well as another with Simone Barone (USA), Camila Nebbia (Argentina), Stefano Costanzo (Italy), Mariaa Grand, and many others.
With Sound Benessere, Kalitragus explores underground culture, celebrating electronic and tekno music in an environment that values energy and originality. This collective is known for creating spaces where music and community converge, promoting an authentic and engaging musical experience.
In the Milano Modulare collective, Kalitragus immerses himself in the niche of modular synthesis, joining musicians and enthusiasts of analog electronic music. Milano Modulare organizes events and evenings dedicated to sound experimentation, offering a platform for artists who want to explore the potential of modular synthesizers.
His musical practice is deeply rooted in improvisation, which he uses to create dynamic interactions with other musicians. This spirit of exploration and risk is what makes each of his performances unique, reflecting the ethos of the collectives with which he collaborates.
Kalitragus is not just a musician but a sound explorer, always ready to experiment and share his art with the world.
